Program Requirements:

  • Be a registered UC San Diego graduate or undergraduate student for the duration of the program
  • Commit to improving your personal, professional, and leadership skills
  • Have a desire to interact with others and actively participate in the program
  • Earn a certificate for successful completion of all required activities

Registration Guidelines:

  • You are welcome to register for a seminar that is already full. Students on the waitlist have a high likelihood of being admitted.
  • Register for only one section of the same seminar.
  • You may register for two different seminars in the same quarter if your schedule permits.
  • If you are unable to participate in a program for which you have registered, please email ccl@ucsd.edu.

Interpersonal Relationships Seminars (Spring - 2016)
This non-credit seminar offered each quarter and during the summer emphasizes development of social self-confidence and "people skills" through experiential learning activities that address initiating and maintaining conversations with peers and professors, assertiveness and managing conflict in relationships, skills in listening and self-disclosure, and understanding personality styles and group dynamics.

Public Speaking Seminars (Spring - 2016)
This non-credit seminar offered each quarter and during the summer emphasizes development of presentation skills through practice, including nonverbal and vocal communication, overcoming stage fright and speech anxiety, designing visual aids, and speaking with confidence and impact.

Professional Communication Seminars (Spring - 2016)
This non-credit seminar offered each quarter and during the summer emphasizes the development of professional communication skills, including networking, resume writing and interviewing, professional etiquette, developing professional and personal mentor relationships, and written workplace correspondence.

iLead - Leadership My Way (Yearlong - 2016)
iLead provides students the flexibility to choose workshop sessions on various communication and leadership topics that align with your individual interests and schedule. Receive a stamp for each session you attend; You can complete the program in one quarter or spread the workshops out across the academic year. 10 stamps earns you a certificate of completion and an invitation to the Center for Student Involvement recognition event held in May. Pick up a quarterly schedule of workshops from the Center for Student Involvement (Price Center East, Level 3) or view the schedule on our website.

Graduate Level Public Speaking (Spring - 2016)
This 5 week Graduate Student Public Speaking Seminar will cover a range of topics to help prepare graduate students to speak effectively in a variety of settings. Special attention will be paid to organizing talks and effective presentation delivery. We will also address nonverbal and vocal communication and overcoming communication apprehension.

Cultural Influences on Communication Public Speaking Seminar (Spring - 2016)
This non-credit seminar is designed to teach students skills for presenting and speaking confidently in public by analyzing how public speaking is utilized within Black culture. This course will analyze and challenge homogenous ideas of public speaking, affirm cultural values of communication that operate outside of what is deemed standard, and provide students with skills to navigate traditional expectations of public speaking. In addition to this, this course will heavily utilize self-reflectiveness to encourage self-love, self-accountability, and self-determination to help students develop competencies in self-confidence and other interpersonal skills necessary to be effective communicators.
